Here are a few behind the scene photos I took during the making of the Cobblestone Runway Lookbook. Hair and makeup is very important when producing a lookbook. Sugar House Day Spa & Salon did a great job at giving the girls a day and night look that complemented their outfits. Click HERE to check out the lookbook and the end product of this beauty session.

Xtreme Lashes with KARMA Beauty Lounge

on Mar 17, 2014

About a week and a half ago I decided to finally get my Xtreme lashes that I won as a giveaway gift at the CapFABB/Karma event we attended a few months back. I was excited about the prospect of waking up with fuller and longer lashes every day and not having to put mascara on for weeks, but I was also a little apprehensive about this process at first since it was something I haven't really heard of before. But Laura at Karma Beauty Lounge is a true professional and made the whole experience super easy and pleasant. A little less than two hours later, I was feeling totally 'Flawless' as our girl Beyonce would say :)

Here are some things you need to know if you're considering this service:

1. Be ready to spend about an hour and a half to two hours getting them done - each lash is attached individually, crazy I know!
2. Only get them done by a certified professional like Laura - you do not want to take the risk of them being done the wrong way
3. You will start to shed some lashes during the weeks to follow - but that is a natural part of the process just like we shed our own lashes naturally, you will just notice them more because they're longer and darker
4. To keep this look you will need to refill them every three weeks or so but it's much cheaper to refill than to have them done the first time, so it's a great alternative for those who could really use longer, fuller lashes on a permanent basis without the mess that comes with fake lashes
5.  Since I have pretty full natural lashes of my own, I decided not to refill them but I'm absolutely loving them so far - it definitely cuts down your time when getting ready -- I haven't worn mascara in weeks!
6. The lashes look very natural but of course with that extra pizazz! I have noticed people starring at me a little closer lately … I really don't think the Xtreme lashes are going to be anyone's little secret for too long!

If you want more info on the process or other services, head over to Karma Beauty Lounge and make your appointments. Their entire team is absolutely amazing and you will walk out of there feeling like a total celebrity!

Another one of my favorite service at Karma is eyebrows with Erwin. He is the ONLY person in years who truly understood the shape of my eyebrows and was able to fix them. I'm forever thankful to his amazing talent, my eyebrows are finally amazing once again!

As much as I tried to keep in mind outfit posts on the trip, it truly is difficult to think of dressing up when all you want to do is roll around on the sand (literally) and skip up and down the beach in nothing but a bikini, so above are a few of my beachy "outfits" - if you can call them that since some of them only feature one piece of garment and a bikini top.  I was however really excited to finally rock my sexy lime green La Petite Marmoset shorts that I've had for a few months now. They were absolutely perfect for the trip - comfortable, fun, and as colorful as the tropical surroundings we were in. Speaking of tropical, I was loving the print this summer so had to get the Trouve pair when I found them at Nordstrom Rack for the grand total of $10! All in all, I learned a few lessons on this trip when it comes to dressing for the occasion, traveling from colder weather into humid, tropical climate, and some new beauty tips I learned from my friend Marta (pictured above) who looked flawless the entire trip, because God knows I am far from flawless when it comes to beach beauty. I'm more like a mermaid on crack since I'm always rolling around on the sand, swimming dawn til dusk (even if it means getting stung by a jelly fish ... twice), and I can care less if my maskara from the night before is running down my face haha. But if you do want to pull off the "flawless" look, check out the tips below:

  1. If you're traveling to tropical weather in cooler months, the key to a perfect travel outfit is layering. I wore a comfi pair of skinny jeans, a tank top, and a leather jacket. Once we arrived to Cancun, the leather jacket was in the bag, my hair was up, and I was ready to take on the heat!
  2. The key to a cute beach outfit is definitely accessories. Accessorize with fun sunnies, statement earrings, cool head bands, hats, arm parties, layared necklaces, and anything else that you can throw on that doens't require you to cover up that cute bikini. But if you must, maxi skirts, short shorts and crop tops work best (at least for me).
  3. Beauty on the beach, is best achieved by A. putting your hair up in a pretty bun, pony tail, or braid (the "hair down/beach wave" look is only cute until the sweat starts pouring down your back), B. using a natural face bronzer to give you a healthy glow + a few coats of waterproof maskara and some slightly tinted SPF chapstick, C. spraying some shimmer body spray that not only smells good but makes your skin look radiant and D. getting a shellac manicure that is sure to last you the entire trip.
So there you have it, the three things I learned on this trip aside from the bigger lesson that true relaxation, some much needed Vit D, and great company of a good, old friend can revitalize you and make you feel alive, happy, and care-free in a matter of days! Hope all of you are having a great week, and if you must ask, yes I do miss Mexico already, but I am happy to be back home with my loved ones and to a schedule full of projects, events, and of course Halloween -- my favorite holiday of the year!

XO,
Katya
