4 Fabulous Thanksgiving Ready Looks

on Nov 25, 2015
Looking for what to wear to on your Turkey Day?
Here are a few ideas, perfect for Thanksgiving and beyond.

SCDC: How to Wear Culottes

on Aug 10, 2015

Remember in the early 2000's, gauchos was the it thing to wear? Well they are trending again but under a different name, "Culottes". They are becoming the perfect pants this summer, with its flattering hemline, versatile shapes, and voluminous/wide leg bottom. A great look for women of any size!

There are many ways to be stylish wearing these trouser trend. Take a look at how to wear for our everyday personal wardrobe.

Printed Culottes
Chose a pair of printed culottes to be the focal point. Go simple with a basic color crop top (silk top would be perfect) and since we wear heels for any other occasion, do the same with your culottes. Pull everything together with a few accessories; layered rings, silver studs, and layered necklace. So when you're going to a fancy party, you are comfortable and fabulous.

Black Culottes
Try an elegant but bold look by coordinating black culottes with a metallic top or you can go sleeveless with the long layered look. This will keep the outfit from being boring. Accessories should be light, play it off with silver hoop earrings, cuff bracelets, and simple watch (don't go overboard). Since this pair stops just below the calf, wearing GX Colorblock Cutout Sandal will  add some height, to balance out the volume. Skip the heavy bags and carry a sleek clutch.

Denim Culottes
Team a denim pair to bring a little edge to the look.  Set it off with a button up crop top or a sleeveless slim fit shirt. I'm really feeling this combo with the pastel pink and pop of red. Add strappy heels for a chic look for summer parties. Other details you can add to your chic outfit; stacked chunky bracelets, bold hoop earrings, and layered rings.

Reminder: Crop tops are a great look when wearing culottes.

SCDC Style: Cleavitz

on Jan 28, 2015
I'm so excited to introduce you to a wonderful new crop top line that is sure to help with some of your outfits! As a girl that has a petite frame with quite large lady lumps, I can't even begin to tell you how many times I've left beautiful wrap dresses behind because my cleavage was just way too much for them. I'm a 34DD and as much as I love my cleavage, sometimes it's just too distracting and can send the wrong message if not displayed "properly" ;) This is where Cleavitz comes to the rescue. It is the perfect crop top to be worn inside a wrap dress or a see-trough blouse -- like I did in this post. I love that it does not slide and it stays put. Cleavitz is also made in the USA (NYC to be exact) and comes in four comfortable styles to chose from: Cotton, shimmer, velvet and lace. I personally want them all. I also find the top very versatile, you can even wear it over your sports bra to your favorite work out. And let me not forget to mention that with every purchase your make, Cleavitz makes a donation to breast cancer research. Yet another reason to support this awesome crop top line! So If you are looking for the perfect layering piece to go under your favorite wrap dress, look no further and thank me later.

One Scarf, Three ways!

on Jan 18, 2015

In this outfit post I want to show you my fave ways to style a scarf. With winter being here in full swing, a scarf becomes one of your main accessories so have fun changing your look by the way you wrap or tie your scarf.

New In My Closet: New Year, New Docs!

on Jan 16, 2015
I have always been a fan of the Dr. Martens brand. Back when I was in my early teens, I could only dream to have a pair. My minimum wage job just wasn't enough for such a splurge. I still remember obsessing over the Nylon magazine spread where Sienna Miller rocked several of the styles and they were perfection. I wanted to get my hands on all of them. I'm now in my early thirties and wasn't sure if at my age I would still feel the same about them as I did in high school, but when I walked into the Dr. Marten Georgetown store I knew they were always going to be shoes I covet. I was like a kid in a candy store and had major anxiety picking out that perfect pair that would be going home with me. I decided on the classic vegan 1460's in cherry red. They are perfect and I have been wearing them non stop ever since. How do you feel about Dr. Martens, are you a fan too?

Events: NYE Day and Night

on Jan 3, 2015

This New Years Eve was all about ending 2014 right and starting 2015 fresh and fabulous!  What better way to end the year then with a day of beautification. We started the day off with a lovely outing to Luigi Parasmo Salon in Georgetown.  Carlis, Katya, Lacey, Jessica and I all gathered for what we knew would be a great day.  Luigi and his team are amazing and now in addition to doing great hair, they recently opened the upstairs spa.  Now in addition to getting great hair styling, you can now also get manicures, pedicures and massages!! We had a fantastic time getting pampered with beautiful hair and nails (which we enjoyed while sipping on our Postmates delivered Veuve Cliquot on demand.)

Once we had all finished, we parted ways to gather up our make up bags, shoes, spanks and rented gowns from Rent the Runway dresses and reconvened at Lacey's place to get ready.  One of the only things I miss about dorm life is the fun of getting ready with all your girls around to help you with final touches and to make sure your eye make up is even!  Once we had all gotten pretty and digitally documented it, it was time to head out.

We arrived at STK excited for a night of good music, with great friends, tasty food and open bar!  We got exactly what we ordered! DJ Schemes was on the turn tables giving us something to dance to while we enjoyed tasty bites and endless champagne.  We laughed, drank and danced the night away.  At midnight we all toasted and cheered and vowed to make 2015 our best year yet!! Cheers and I hope it's a great year of each of you as well!

Friday Night LIVE Package at The Renaissance Hotel

on Dec 12, 2014
SpicyCandyDC, The Renaissance Hotel
I can't believe it's December already and with that comes our brand new mini lookbook. This time we wanted to feature our currently favorite hotel package deal in DC, The Friday Night Live at The Renaissance in DuPont Circle. A few weeks ago we had the pleasure to experience it first hand and absolutely loved it beginning to end.

We arrived at the hotel on Friday around 5PM and immediately noticed the hotel's welcoming aura and chic lobby decor. It was also wonderful to be attended by knowledgeable and friendly front desk staff who made sure our checkin was quick and easy. Eager to get our night stated we rushed to our room and were pleasantly surprised to be greeted with some bubbly and chocolate covered strawberries. Now that's what we call a proper welcome! After unwinding for about an hour and enjoying a little down time, we were ready for dinner at the Westend Bistro (about a block away from the hotel). We met a few of our friends there for a 7 course dinner - an experience we are all still raving about today! It was seriously one of the best tasting dinners we have ever had. Every course and wine pairing was absolutely perfect and left us craving more. We can not wait to go back for more of their signature tuna carpaccio (our favorite) and all the other deliciousness we experienced during the tasting.

Q&A with Jewelry Designer Amanda Hagerman + Giveaway!

on Nov 11, 2014
DSC_0646
Today we are excited to introduce you to one of our new favorite local jewelry designers Amanda Hagerman and two of our favorite pieces in the collection.

Personally, one thing I always look for when purchasing jewelry is for it to be timeless. I often question wether I would wear the piece in a few years from now, or would it even make a great gift to pass down to my future daughter (if I'm ever lucky to have one). Amanda's line definitely has this timeless feel and the little details make each design unique and special. The necklace I'm wearing in this post has a hand drawn etched design that says "Don't Worry, Be Happy" written through shooting arrows.... how beautiful is that?

With Shop Small Saturday coming up we want to encourage our readers to shop small and support local, talented artists like Amanda. We hope you enjoy getting to know her a little more through this little Q&A and make sure to enter the give away in this post for a chance to win the beautiful Happy necklace and Taura ring set!

Q&A w Amanda Hagerman

1. What is your inspiration for this particular collection?
The jewelry I craft is influenced by current and classic fashion trends, as well as various elements of nature. I create what I wish existed, imparting upon each design my own personal flare for aesthetics and attention to detail. It is my intent to offer unique and trendy adornments that woman have fun wearing. There is no greater joy for me as an artist, than to make someone happy because they are wearing one of my designs.

2. How long have you been designing jewelry?
I got the itch to design and create jewelry in high school after I took a jewelry making class with one of my high school art teachers who is also a goldsmith. It was then I discovered I could focus my love for art and passion for working with my hands on creating unique jewelry for people to wear. I have been designing and making jewelry ever since. I graduated from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania in 2008 with a B.S. in Art Education and a B.F.A. in Fine Metals. Since 2008 I have been teaching high school art in Harwood, MD, which caused me to put my jewelry making on the back burner for a bit. About a year and a half ago, I obtained a studio space which allowed me to fully pursue my jewelry making ambitions. Amanda Hagerman Jewelry came soon after. I’m thrilled to be designing and making jewelry again and look forward to adorning women everywhere for many years to come!

3. Can you give us details of what each item that we are featuring today is made of?
The necklace: Solid brass and a 2" Lemurian Seed Quartz Point (from Brazil)
The Rings: Solid brass and a 4mm fresh water cultured pearl--
